So… what’s up with you guys? Everyone out there sleeping well? You know, more than 30 minutes a day? That’s good. Real good. I miss that.

We’re back from the hospital – actually we’ve been back since Sunday. I meant to post right away but… holy crap I’ve got a kid! When did that happen?!?! Yeah, I’m slightly out of it. The joy of heading home was rather short-lived when I realized that there was no NURSE button that would rescue us in the event of an unknown situation. There would also be no nursery at which to deposit our little girl to help us catch up on some much needed sleep. Instead, we would be on our own.

Parenthood is scary.

Obviously I know that this is a huge responsibility, and it will leave me exhausted in more ways than just physically, but suddenly we are faced with the very strong realization that “alone time” is gone. Everybody knows that once you have a kid going out becomes a far more rare occasion – especially in the beginning. But at this point she needs so much attention that there is almost no “spare time” for anything else. At least next week I’ll have work to break up my day, but The Woman will be unable to escape the constant companionship.

Trust me, I’m not complaining. I’m not going to write “woe is me” posts on this site about the troubles of being a new parent. Sure, I’ve already collected my first sleepless night, funny poop, and scary hiccup stories to share, but no sympathy will be fished for here. Because even an hour of nonstop screaming with your last nerve just about to go is completely erased the moment she stares up at me with those beautiful eyes.

You all know when a sentimental fool I can be, so it should come as no surprise to you that I’m fawning all over my precious little girl. Every little look, every little noise, every little movement just grabs a hold of my heart.

There’s still plenty more to share, but that will probably wait until another late night feeding session…

Congratulations again, man – you two must have done a good job, because she’s absolutely adorable 🙂
Aww, she’s beautiful! Congratulations :).
*giggles* awwww, she’s so cute, and you guys look….happy and sleepy. The most intense on-the-job training, that’s for sure. It’ll get easier once you get the hang of it. Just remember that most of the time she’s crying for seemingly no reason, it’s probably because she’s trying to deal with air….it’s new for her….and it’s much easier and less miserable to get it out of her stomach via burping than letting it get into her intestines and cause her belly to ache. Be sure she burps…..often and loud….it’s the most beautiful sound ever.
wow, she’s quite alert! and super cute. but you know that already. 🙂
She’s really expressive for a newborn. It’s amazing.
Just remember the first six weeks are the worst. It is like being in love with a broken alarm clock. It gets a lot better soon.
If you guys need anything let me know. Davey and I are home during the day most days and would be happy to bring over food or company or whatever help you might need, especially if Lisa needs anything after you go back to work.
So cute! Thanks for the pics. Can’t believe how many faces she makes already. What a cutey!
Are they making you do the sun-lamp thing, or just outside a lot? I remember going through the frequent trips to the hospital for alex..
Yes, I have good news about your “alone time” though. It gets better eventually. I just bought tickets Monday to see a movie! Like in a real movie theater! First time in years… So, it doesn’t last forever..
It’s a cliché, but its true, Those times with the cute baby sure do go way too fast.
Congratulations! She is beautiful. Just think, while you are getting into the swing of things Pete and I will be on our honeymoon in Montana. Another interesting fact, there were four pregnant women at our wedding and ALL of them are having girls!
Hopefully we’ll be in your predicament in another year or so.
Lisa and Pete
So, would you guys be up for some daylight hours at the farmer’s market on Sunday. It might be a decent place to go that isn’t really a problem for newborns.
OH my gosh, Lisa, Tom, she is just gorgeous and I am thrilled for the both of you….Mazel Tov and I hope these days are only the beginning of a wondrous and joyful life with your beautiful baby girl. Enjoy every minute of this and hopefully you can squeeze a bit of sleep in every once in a while! Love you Lisa and really I am so happy for all three of you!!!!
